Some positives are being done to keep the Coral Reefs safe. Blast fishing is illegal in most countries, many other dangerous types of fishing are also outlawed. The Pacific Oceanscape is a group designed to protect the Coral Reefs in the Pacific Ocean. WWF does a lot of work to protect the environment including Coral Reefs. So even though they are being destroyed at an alarming rate people are trying to save them.

The Pacific Oceanscape website is a support
group for the countries in the Pacific Ocean that are losing their coral reefs.
The website shows a map, explains why we need to protect the environment, talks
about the issues, gives solutions and suggests things you can do to help the
cause.
This website was helpful to me because it
gave me all the information I need on where this is happening, what effects it
has on the rest of the world and tells me what we as humans are doing to kill
coral reefs.

This is the World Wildlife Foundations’
(WWF) webpage on coral reefs. The website gives you some facts, tells you about
the ecology, talks about tropical and cold water coral reefs, tells you about
the threats and the importance of coral reefs.
From this website I am taking the
importance, some facts and the difference about tropical and cold water coral
reefs. “More than 80% of the world's shallow reefs are severely over-fished” “Occupying less than one quarter of 1% of
the marine environment, coral reefs are home to more than 25% of all known
marine fish species” “58% of the world's coral reefs are potentially threatened
by human activity” and “We have already lost 27% of the world's coral reefs. If
present rates of destruction are allowed to continue, 60% of the world's coral
reefs will be destroyed over the next 30 years”

Education: Global Distribution of Coral Reefs." NOAA National Ocean

This is a map of all the large established
coral reefs in the world both tropical and cold water.
I am using this so I can get an idea of
where the coral reefs are where the most are located and trying to guess how
much of an impact they will have I will also find the cold water and warm water
ones and see what one’s are being destroyed faster and what type of countries
they are near will play a big part in their destruction as well.

My topic is Cartography, map making, cartography deals with everything in and around the world. I had a lot of choice for my world issue, I could have talked about almost anything. I decided on the coral reefs for my world issue. There are two types of coral reefs, cold water and warm water. Most of the worlds coral reefs are located in the eastern shoreline of Africa and in the Pacific Ocean all over the continent of Australasia. The Pacific Oceanscape produces most a lot of food, "Oceans store the majority of the earth's carbon, which gives them a crucial role in regulating global climates." (Pacific Oceanscape) The Pacific Oceanscape gives jobs and prosperity to the islands and the Oceanscape give Serenity and beauty to the world.
The Coral Reefs are being destroyed and there are many reason for this. Over fishing is huge. 75% of fisheries in the Pacific Oceanscape are unable to meet their needs. The oceans have become more and more acidic over the years because a lot of people are producing CO2 and the ocean is absorbing all the carbon, making the water have a high level of acid. The sea level is rising in the Pacific Oceanscape; it has risen 7.5 feet. Dynamite fishing is destroying coral reefs as well. people will go out in their boats and in stead of waiting for the fish to bite they put explosives in the water and catch all the fish that rise in a net. This is destroying the coral reefs in a number of ways: it blows up pieces of the reef; kills fish and when they don't rise they sink they fall into the coral and pollute it; and all the chemicals from the explosives kill the coral and turn it from bright and colourful into a grey boring mess.

Intro to Cartography
Hey guys my blog and my ISU is all about Cartography the study of maps and how to make maps. I want to learn the rules of cartography, I want to make a couple different maps but I don't want to fall behind and look like a fool.
